andy, being a 'socialist', i don't own a boat but i have belonged to the Boston Harbor Sailing Club for many years. "Cheap" is the boat we choose for cruising. she's an old Cal 33, but still fast and seaworthy. P'town is Provincetown MA, on the tip of cape cod, known for its art and a huge, flamboyant gay community.

Sharing the expense of a boat sounds like the smart way to go to me. Just had a look in GE at it and it looks like an interesting area around there and must be great for sailing. The beaches look fantastic which I am sure is the big draw to Cape Cod.

Have you  done any sailing this year yet or do you go year round?

andy, we think it's the way to go too.

i like to cruise to places where i can swim, so you're right that the beaches are a big draw for us. in p'town it's just a 1mi dingy ride from the mooring to Long Point beach, and there's a shuttle bus right from the marina to Herring Cove and Race Point beaches. similarly, in Wellfleet you have a lot of good places to visit in the dingy.

i'm really a fair weather sailor. the club opens May 1 but it's so cold on the water in may even when it's warm on land that we don't get started till june.

Well then I don't feel so bad. We don't get down to the cottage until late May and don't do a lot of sailing before June either. Water temp by July is usually pretty warm for swimming though. How warm does the water get on Cape Cod in the summer?

andy, on the ocean side it gets into the low to mid-60s F. i'm comfortable in mid 60s, low 60s can be painful. on the bay side it's warmer.

i was looking through some of yours, you really get around.

is there anything to honor the great #4 in parry sound?

Man you got me confused Tom. Is the great #4 the Fourth of July? If so, no, but we do celebrate the 1st of July which is our confederation (aka separation) from Britain in 1867.

...and yes I believe there are signs as you come into town that say, "Home of Bobby Orr" (or something to that effect). He is the man in that town no doubt about it.  Wink
